Torrijas Sevillanas

Description:

Traditional “Torrijas” recipe from Sevilla, Spanish version of French Toast, with their unique flavour and texture from the South of Spain. Typically served during the Holy Week in Seville.


Recipe method:

  1. Place the Honey into a saucepan, add a cup of water and a handful of cloves and heat until the mix is diluted.
  2. In the meantime, grab a bowl and mix the wine with a cup of water.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs.
  4. After that, dip the slices of bread in the wine and water until they are well soaked but the bread remains firm.
  5. Then take the bread slices and coat both sides with the beaten egg.
  6. Put some extra virgin olive oil in a pan at a medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, fry the bread slices on both sides and then drain them from the excess oil.
  7. Finally, place the Torrijas on a plate and covered them with the desired amount of honey, water and cloves mixture which was made at the start of this recipe.

Ingredients and Quantities:
600grams / 21oz of bread

4 large eggs

A handful of cloves

½ litre / 16fl oz of white wine

½ kg / 17oz of honey

Olive oil

Water
