Authentic Valencian Horchata – Traditional Tiger Nut Drink from Spain
Horchata or orxata is an energetic and nutritious milky drink made from ground tiger nuts, water and sugar. Our Horchata Panach follows the original version, made from the traditional sweet recipe originated in Valencia, Spain. It is a nutritive milky drink made from ground tiger nuts, water and sugar. It has cardiovascular properties similar to the olive oil and it contributes to lower the cholesterol and triglycerides, because of its high rate of oleic acid.
Valencian Horchata is suitable for people with hypertension, as it is low in sodium and high in minerals: phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, calcium and iron.This refreshing and tasty drink is normally served ice cold during the summer. What are tiger nuts? They are not actually nuts. In fact, it’s a small root vegetable, grown in a field and harvested using similar techniques as a potato.
In Spain, it is known as ‘Chufa’ and it’s full of food qualities. It has a crunchy texture and a very sweet taste.
